Najwa Syihab

   Najwa Shihab who is nicknamed Nan (born in Makassar, 16 September 1977, age 40 years) is a former newscaster on television station Metro TV. He was once the anchor of Metro Today prime time news program, your Voice and Najwa Eye talks program. Najwa is the second daughter of Quraish Shihab,  Minister of Religion of the era of Development Cabinet VII. Nana is married to Ibrahim Assegaf, and already has one son who is familiarly called Izzat (17 years).

       Najwa is a graduate of Faculty of Law UI year 2000. During high school he was elected to follow the program of AFS, which in Indonesia this program implemented by Foundation Bina Antarbudaya, for one year in United States. Pioneering career in RCTI, in 2001 he chose to join Metro TV because the TV station was considered more to answer his interest to the world of journalism.

      In August 2017, through the episode of Pointless Notes, he formally resigned from MetroTV who had raised his name. And on January 10, 2018, Najwa Shihab via Mata Najwa appeared again in Trans7 by staying in the same slot as on Metro TV, which is Wednesday at 8:00 pm.

    Award Achieved 

    In 2005, he received awards from PWI Pusat and PWI Jaya for his reports from Aceh, when the tsunami struck the region in December 2004. His coverage and reports were seen as contributing to the widespread concern and empathy of the community towards the humanitarian tragedy.

    Najwa arrived in Aceh in the first days of the disaster, witnessed the awful awesomeness, was in the midst of a pile of unruly corpses, and also witnessed how the government was not ready to face it. No wonder some of the direct reports he did had felt his emotional depth. Yet he did not lose his critical power and sharpness, although the person who was most responsible for post-disaster handling was Alwi Shihab, Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare at the time, who was none other than his uncle. UI communication expert Effendi Ghazali, impressed with his reports, called the phenomenon Shihab vs. Shihab.

    In 2006 he was selected as Best Journalist of Metro TV, and was nominated for Best Panasonic Awards Reader.

    In the same year, along with a number of journalists from various countries, Najwa was elected a Senior Journalist Seminar held in several cities in the US, and was a speaker at the Asian American Journalist Association Convention.

     In 2007, recognition of Najwa's professionalism came not only from within the country, but also abroad. Proven, in addition to re-nominated Panasonic Awards Best Panasonic Awards, he also nominated (5 big) more prestigious event in Asia, the Asian Television Awards for the category Best Current Affairs / Talkshow Presenter. The winner announcement took place in November 2007 in Singapore. If the winning Panasonic Awards are selected from the highest number of sms, then the winner determination at the Asian TV Awards is conducted by a panel of judges consisting of senior broadcaster TV from various countries in Asia.

     One of the events that Najwa Shihab guided and quite imprinted in the public mind, is the candidate debate of the Governor of DKI Jakarta. The debate that brought the pair of Fauzi Bowo-Priyanto and Adang Daradjatun-Dani Anwar was organized by KPUD DKI Jakarta, broadcast live by Metro TV and Jak TV. Najwa was elected as a debate guide to set aside a number of elected show host KPUD DKI Jakarta.

     Because of deciding to totally jump into the world of journalism and TV broadcast, Najwa constantly strives to strengthen and enrich his scientific insights. In early 2008, he flew to Australia as a Full Scholarship for Australian Leadership Awards and studied the field of media law.


    In 2010, Najwa Shihab returned as nominated Best Panasonic Awards Presenter, although in the end Putra Nababan was decided as the winner.

   Najwa Shihab is a female journalist who interviewed almost all national political figures through the Mata Najwa program broadcast on Metro TV. In addition he was also the first person to interview President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono when he was inaugurated.

   Until now Najwa Shihab is still active as a journalist. He diligently produces journalistic contents such as interviewing Indonesian figures, making investigative news which he later aired on his Najwa Eye Youtube channel.
